About Us

Folk was born in 2001 when Cathal McAteer was given the opportunity to achieve his aspiration of creating a menswear collection that his friends would like to wear. The collections are not trend led but are defined by a handcrafted aesthetic that creates simple staple favourites with subtle, fun and quirky detailing that allows their owner to make a statement without having to shout too loudly about it.

Much of the design time is spent on fabric selection with recent collections including Japanese double face cotton shirting, carbon finished jerseywear and Bolivian alpaca knitwear. This combined with detailing such as pointelle, textured tweed stitching and small touches such as corozo nut buttons and Folk Braille zip pullers help define collections that spans shirting, knitwear, wovens, jersey and accessories.

Shöfolk was born in 2004 as the sister footwear brand to the Folk collection and has the same ethos - to create shoes that our friends would like to wear and enjoy. Handcrafted in Portugal and made from natural raw leathers the shoes are built for comfort but have the same fun aesthetic and attention to detail as Folk.

The men's collection began with handstitched moccasin styles and has progressed with the addition of our desert boot and track sole options. The women's collection has the same hand crafted feel and has created a look of luxury and elegance without scrimping on comfort. The distinctive shapes and colour palettes in both collections complement the natural feel and due to limited production we ensure they cant be found in too many places.
