So, Jamie Stoker, who is hosting an exhibition in our Dray Walk store, held a little soiree to launch the exhibition last week. There was a great turnout, which is well deserved as its a great piece of work. If you cant make it down to the store you can see (and read) what its all about on jamie’s blog.

Atlantis Art Shop

Being based amongst all these creative types get us in the mood for trying our hand at a bit of art which brings me to the subject of art suppliers in the area .Our favourite East London art store is Atlantis Art shop and although we generally only buy pads and pens it is always a pleasure to look around their new Hanbury St location.

Stolen Space
Thursday nights in our neck of the Woods mean one thing, free booze and opening nights of exhibitions, Luckily for us we are in stumbling distance of the Stolen space gallery providing us with some of the best as some would call, Urban Art, some prefer to call it Street Art. To save unnecessary quibbling we’ll just call it Art.

Sometimes we at Folk like to look in other shops, I know its hard to believe and every now then buy the odd bit from other places (not very often!) though one place that we have a soft spot for is Sunspel, just down the road from our Dray Walk store on Redchurch st.

Levison’s Vintage

Whilst travelling through Brick Lane as a regular or tourist it is hard not to notice the vast array of vintage clothing stores that line Brick Lane and surrounding streets. They clothe the art students, provide props for films and offer the cheap alternative to keep up with the ever-changing look of the young hipsters that congregate by night in the clubs of east London.

THE BAGEL SHOP

One place that has been here from the first time I came to London as a ten year old boy on the way back from footy, it still shows no signs of wilting and for good reason that is, this place is the original Bagel Shop.

MID-SEASON PICKS ~ Issue 1. SS11

Leon wears: Gideon Jacket in green ~ Stitched Elbow Patch shirt in royal blue tartan ~ Classic Short in navy nite ~ Alaric shoes in pacific navy / velvet.

I picked the classic short as they’re a great fitting short for the summer and can be worn rolled up to show the taped seam detail. The shirt is a Japanese light weight fabric and the check works well with the shorts. The Gideon jacket makes a great alternative to a harrington and gives it a bit of a preppy look.

Leon work at our brick lane store.

Moving on down Brick Lane to another little spot we have come across, It has stayed true to it’s roots as a classic local bookshop and not succumbed to selling overpriced cookbooks and glossy magazines, that place is EastSide Books.
