Photographer Brian Sweeney is having an exhibition at the Folk Store, 11 dray Walk, Truman brewery London, from Thursday 8th September for four weeks, with an opening launch on Thursday 8th from 7-9 pm at the same address.

The show is called were the antelopes sleep and its an ongoing project, its part of two projects “the great stadiums of europe” stadiums found around europe mainly lower league or non league,a hark back to days when football wasnt about airline companies sponsering teams ,overpriced tickets and overpaid players, more about the community aspect of the sport, the images are always empty, because in a sense they are architectural as well as social,as the architecture reflects in many cases the main industries of the places they are found in,through the materials they are built with, and accordingly a reflection of the communities themselves.
The antelopes sleeps are the places i find peaceful in between shooting these stadiums.
All the images have previously not been shown and are part of an evergrowing body of work.

Thursday nights in our neck of the Woods mean one thing, free booze and opening nights of exhibitions, Luckily for us we are in stumbling distance of the Stolen space gallery providing us with some of the best as some would call, Urban Art, some prefer to call it Street Art. To save unnecessary quibbling we’ll just call it Art.

Levison’s Vintage

Whilst travelling through Brick Lane as a regular or tourist it is hard not to notice the vast array of vintage clothing stores that line Brick Lane and surrounding streets. They clothe the art students, provide props for films and offer the cheap alternative to keep up with the ever-changing look of the young hipsters that congregate by night in the clubs of east London.

NUDE EXPRESSO

Here at Folk we have a slight problem, we are not very good without a nice strong coffee in the morning to liven our senses.

In this area there is only one place to choose. That place is Nude Expresso on Hanbury St. Whichever your coffee of choice; this is the place for the fresh stuff as they have an on site roasting facility within the Truman brewery. The staff are super friendly and know how to make a smooth coffee. Not to forget their freshly made cakes and assortment of tasty snacks.

Folk Guide to East London part 1

At the end of 2009 we decided to venture into another retail adventure following the success of our Lambs conduit street store in Holborn, WC1. East London and Dray Walk (Brick Lane) to be precise was to be our second home.

Anyone based in London over the last few years has seen the emergence of Spitalfields and it’s surrounding areas as a place to be for the young, creative and fashionable.

Now nestled quite happily in our new area famous for it’s bustling markets, vibrant atmosphere and array of culture we at Folk want to share our new found nuggets of insider knowledge and must go places that we have discovered since our arrival.

As there’s a lot of  favourite hidden and not so hidden treasures we frequent in our spare time and lunch breaks (If the Boss is being kind) we’ve broken them down into a series of little posts – watch this space for more.
