Stolen Space
Thursday nights in our neck of the Woods mean one thing, free booze and opening nights of exhibitions, Luckily for us we are in stumbling distance of the Stolen space gallery providing us with some of the best as some would call, Urban Art, some prefer to call it Street Art. To save unnecessary quibbling we’ll just call it Art.
Sunspel
Sometimes we at Folk like to look in other shops, I know its hard to believe and every now then buy the odd bit from other places (not very often!) though one place that we have a soft spot for is Sunspel, just down the road from our Dray Walk store on Redchurch st.
THE BAGEL SHOP
One place that has been here from the first time I came to London as a ten year old boy on the way back from footy, it still shows no signs of wilting and for good reason that is, this place is the original Bagel Shop.
EASTSIDE BOOKS
Moving on down Brick Lane to another little spot we have come across, It has stayed true to it’s roots as a classic local bookshop and not succumbed to selling overpriced cookbooks and glossy magazines, that place is EastSide Books.
LABOUR & WAIT
Who thought mundane and everyday objects could look so good, with an incredibly well curated set of household products and clothing Labour & Wait have made the everyday look beautiful. With an unapologetic less is more attitude towards their product choice their understated/functional style keeps you coming back for more.
NUDE EXPRESSO
Here at Folk we have a slight problem, we are not very good without a nice strong coffee in the morning to liven our senses.
In this area there is only one place to choose. That place is Nude Expresso on Hanbury St. Whichever your coffee of choice; this is the place for the fresh stuff as they have an on site roasting facility within the Truman brewery. The staff are super friendly and know how to make a smooth coffee. Not to forget their freshly made cakes and assortment of tasty snacks.
OLD SPITALFIELDS MARKET
Every Thursday sees the antiques market in Spitalfields in full flow. Whether trying to find that must have vintage US navy jacket, a one off grandfather clock or a last minute present for your loved one they have it all but you got to be quick as buyers, designers and collectors alike snap up all the good stuff for inspiration and private collections as fast they can.
TAYYABS
If your in the Brick Lane area (also known as Bangla town to the locals due to it is huge Bangladeshi community) and feeling a bit peckish you can find yourself not seeing the wood for the trees so the question is where do you start with so much to offer?
