Ever moving forward, Folk steps back to understand the future. The AW17 collection is inspired & bound together with 1970’s ideas of technology and its analogue imperfections.
Artists such as Steina & Woody Vasulka embraced the early 70s development in audio visual technology and turned electrical hardware into tools of creative expression. Early video art used basic elements of frequency and voltage to generate pattern, sound, & texture, free of digital perfection. Its exactly this approach that informs and disrupts the new Folk collection. Embrace the imperfect future!
From textiles and colour to details and trims, the clothing is inspired from that analogue era to create unique contemporary casualwear: The luminous box TV screens which glitch with electrostatic are reflected in iridescent fabric choices; the pixelated visual feedback is reflected in textured fabrics and flickering splatter trims; garment stitching mimics multiple strand cables with rows of ‘glitch’ stitching through quilting. Colours are black, silver grey, metallic, iridescent bitter orange and deep green with ecru, bright white and navy core tones – muted utility meets machine bright.
