Clothes to live in, courtesy of a collaboration between British design icons old & new.
Terence Conran once described the lounge as ‘the temple of the soul.’ Fine words from the wry, dry godfather of the modern British home. I wonder then, if it was in pursuit of godly garments to wear when idling in one’s temple that The Conran Shop came to Folk.
Together they’ve made a fine collection of clothes to hang out in around the house. Good news, it’s a small but pretty perfectly formed collection. Lest anyone forget, the last piece of clothing purpose-built for wearing about the home was the ahem, House Coat… Folk and The Conran Shop’s ‘stay at home’ clothes are not just made for being louche in though – there are practical, sturdy shirts, trousers, proper socks – and yes, a few jackets – that are built to last, be worn by men or women, and look good.
They are built to share regardless of age, gender and interiors preference. A favourite? Probably the Relaxed Fit Shirt, definitely in blue-grey, followed by the unisex Meyer jacket. The colours are very Saturday morning breakfast: bright sunny Amber yellow and the glorious Conran Blue in the puffa and socks. Also, pockets galore. Why? Again, Sir Terence: because ‘Good design is probably 98% common sense.’
